An empowering leader can coach teammates into increasing levels of autonomy:

  1. Given a known problem and a solution, implement the solution
  2. Given a known problem, generate new solutions to it
  3. Identify a high-leverage problem (that weren’t previously recognized)
  4. Identify a high-leverage problem, and generate ideas to solve it
  5. Identify a high-leverage problem, generate solutions to it, and an “executable” (time, cost, steps)
  6. Identify a high-leverage problem, generate solutions and an “executable” (time, cost, steps), and then do it
